The life of a Camphill volunteer in India

“ If you come to our Community which is part of Friends of Camphill India you will be joining a way of life, which is probably very different from how you have lived before. You will become part of an extended family, which includes a number of people with mental disabilities. Part of the activities will be your work in one or the other of our workshops, in the garden or in the household. Social and cultural life is shared with all the other community members. Because Camphill is our life and not a "job", free time is not formally scheduled but arranged by mutual awareness of the needs and responsibilities of the others.

We have two family houses.  The workshop (Panchanga) has several sections: paper making, paper products, weaving, candle making, pottery. We grow our own vegetables and fruits and gardening is a very important activity. We are all involved in work activities morning and afternoon . Whether you have interest in indoor, outdoor or craft work, you should be willing to work where your help is needed most at a given time.

Our Community is situated about 20 km out of BANGALORE, on Bannerghatta Road, and the land is part of an Ashram with a temple and a small home for senior citizens. You will get free board and lodging, as well as a modest remuneration. Your personal expenses, travelling expenses and so on will have to be borne by you. We are a vegetarian community and alcohol, drugs and smoking are not allowed. Our Community is open to all, irrespective of caste, creed or community. We strive for a rich cultural life and festivals of different religions are celebrated.
